Listening to Means talk was very interesting. She is a highly credible speaker who has conducted and read much research and opinions in education. The content of her presentation is evidence-based and the impact of it brought me to think of not only the immediate future which involves me but the longer term future which will consist of the next generations who will have different thoughts, evaluations and scales that will either be similar or beyond the ones that structure the current education system. Their future will not only depend on ours to form, but also use the structures we conclude from our own research and experimentation to avoid our downfalls. Her presentation focused on ideas about “next generation learning” which evolved around the concept, challenge grants, issues, projects, strategies to lower the tension, and her concluding comments on the future. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are predicted to be the future of educational expansion for educational institutes. With the personalized pedagogy that technology allows, it co-allows feedback and data about the pool of education so that content professionals would respond and evolve so that instruction becomes more of a solution to improve the quality of learning.
The four challenges were: deeper learning while providing engaging and comprehensive content, blended learning that would allow different competencies and components to facilitate learning mastery, open course course-ware for the high enrollment, gateway and developmental courses, and learning analytics to analyze learning data to improve learning. Means believes that the future will define its own education needs and possibilities not only with the development of speed and technology, but thoughts and levels of educational advancement but the NOW should think about the best principles and structures to guide this advancement.
